Determinants of students’ behavior in using light rail transit in Hanoi

On November 6th, 2021, the first light rail transit (LRT) began operating in Vietnam after a decade of construction. This project aimed to alleviate traffic congestion road network Hanoi capital. However, despite deployment service, passenger volume remains under-capacity, raising questions about how encourage people, particularly young individuals, use new public transit. Hence, this study investigated students’ behavior choosing LRT as means transport. Statistical analysis questionnaire survey showed that satisfaction level was dominant factor affecting mode choices students. Besides, distance from home school and station accessibility significantly influenced traveling behavior. These findings provide fundamental insight into Vietnamese individuals’ regarding service. We believe these outcomes would help support policy-makers service providers improving projects’ efficiency.
